Biography

Born in Mexico City, Davíd Robinson began his career as a finalist for two consecutive years in the National Voice Competition "Carlo Morelli." Subsequently the National Opera Company of Mexico engaged him as a soloist for opera, operetta, and zarzuela. 

Of his performances as a baritone, it was recently said: "It fits extremely well the nature of his voice and his abilities as a a singer and actor." 

An opportunity came about to perform as a guest artist in a concert at Mozart Haus at the Bössendorfer Saal in Vienna. His performance debut in this repertoire was very well received by colleagues and the audience. His next concert took place in Maribor, European City of Culture 2102-13, at Slovenia's National Theater. This program included arias from Verdi, Leoncavallo, Gounod, Korngold and Mozart from the baritone repertoire, as well as operetta, musicals and a Mexican & Latinamerican medely, which was received enthusiastically by audience and organizers.

Upcoming engagements included the role of Gabriel von Eisenstein in DIE FLEDERMAUS, which he successfully performied in Tel-Aviv at IVAI, as well as a series of upcoming engagements in Mexico, Austria and Southamerica, including repertorie from RIGOLETTO, LA TRAVIATA, BALLO IN MASCHERA, DON CARLO, DIE TOTE STADT, I PAGLIACCI, TANNHÄUSER, FAUST & others.

Some of his previous performances included the comedic role of Anibal in LUISA FERNANDA at Theater an der in Wien with Plácido Domingo; several roles in Leonard Bernstein's CANDIDE with the Munich Philharmonic and the London Symphony Orchestra with Kristjan Järvi; recitals in Spain with renowned Spanish pianist David Gómez;  MADAME BUTTERFLY in Hong Kong and a series of concerts in the Philippines. Additional engagements included a gala concert  with the New National Opera of Tokyo in DIE LUSTIGE WITWE  and  LA TRAVIATA; CANDIDE with Musikfest Bremen and Wiener Konzerthaus, as well as the role of Thug in the world-premiere of IL POSTINO by Daniel Catán at Theater an der Wien. After these performances in Vienna, he was invited by Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris  and the Palace of Fine Artes and the Cervantino International Music Festival  in Mexico to perform the role of Cura in this world-premiere.  He sang other roles in DON GIOVANNI, FALSTAFF, LA TRAVIATA, RIGOLETTO, DIE FLEDERMAUS and with Los Angeles Opera  in PARSIFAL and LUISA FERNANDA.

 

Being a versatile performer, Mr. Robinson made his debut with Lyric Opera of San Diego as The Padre in MAN OF LA MANCHA. ("The most impressive and subtle voice belongs to newcomer David Robinson...had clarity and emotional power." San Diego Union Tribune, CA.)

He recently finished filming the role of Al P. Benoit in the film "The Bohemians", directed by José Luis Cortés, which will be premiered during the 2014-15 season.

Projects.

 

"Dance Project: Amanecer" in Mexico (2012-2015)

Cooperation between the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA), the Secretary of Culture and the Center for the Arts in San Luis Potosí. Dance Artists and choreographers Tamara McLorg and Mónica Delgadillo will create a choreography with 40 children who live in San Luis Potosí, Mexico in a Reintegration Center/orphanage in their first "Community Dance" project in Mexico.
